Strengths/weaknesses
Strengths: Salem has a public swimming pool as well as many parks with numerous play areas and lighted courts for night time play. The library offers a significant amount of services and activities to participate in providing those of all ages with the opportunity to learn and have fun. Quakertown Super Kids allows children with special needs to have a day specifically meant for them to be able to participate in a recreational event. The Community Center is an approved site for SilverSneakers allowing older adults to have opportunities to enhance their health. The community has many recreational facilities from the Community Theatre to the Salem Hunting Club.
Weaknesses: There aren't many programs specifically designed for those with disabilities to participate in. A second weakness is the Salem Lake is considered Salem's main water source, so the priority is water and then recreation comes second. At any time this lake can be closed, with no warning, shutting down a major recreational opportunity that many Salem residents enjoy. The season passes will not be refunded. Lastly, Eagleton's Glenn Recreation Area that the Salem Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for has an undeveloped 70 acres, leaving a lot of land to care for but doesn't provide much recreation.
